As we speak, there are people feeling good about giving the perfect Valentine’s gift. It’s something red, life-giving and literally from the heart.

Blood donors this week include students, alumni and friends of Santa Rosa High and Montgomery High, whose education foundations are holding their third annual good-natured Blood Feud drive.

We all can roll up a sleeve and participate. Just go into Blood Bank of the Redwoods (www.bbr.org) before 3 p.m. Saturday, give a pint of the good stuff and credit your donation to one school or the other. Can’t decide which? Toss a coin.

Santa Rosa won the competition both of the first two years. As Montgomery Vikings strive to turn the tide, they’re downright gleefull that the big drive has proved, clinically, that Panthers don’t really bleed orange and black.
